Above Lake Buffalo all the way to at least Catherine River junction, the Buffalo can offer very good fishing for ‘stream sized’ rainbows and browns and sometimes slightly bigger fish.

Lake Catani
Lake Catani in its headwaters on top of Mount Buffalo is a small, very pretty lake full of small browns.
Lake Dartmouth
There are two significant lakes in the system, the smallish regulating pondage Lake Banimboola and the giant Lake Dartmouth. Both are great backups when the streams in the system are high and discoloured, or during the winter closed season.
Livingston River
Livingston Creek whilst a poor fishery in its lower reaches, it can produce good fishing around Omeo and above.
Middle Creek
Middle Creek is a small appealing and reasonable accessible fast water flowing through a mix of forrest and farmland.
Mitta Tailwater
Mitta Tailwater below Lake Dartmouth is a very different fishery to the river above and lake, mostly flowing broadly through farmland flats. Has potential to be an exceptional fishery in the right conditions.
Morses Creek
Morses Creek is a small healthy tributary near bright that fishes well in all but the driest years.
Nimmo Bridge Reserve
This site is on the Ovens River about 1 km west of Myrtleford on the Buffalo River Road. There is a large parking area with picnic facilities but no toilets. No camping is permitted. There is another access point on the other side of the bridge. The bank slope is...
Rose River
The Rose River joins the Buffalo a short distance above Lake Buffalo. Although vulnerable to dry summers with some access difficulties in sections the Rose river is a fine little stream.
Smoko Campground
Access to this site is approx 16 km south of Bright on the Great Alpine Road. The road to, and parking at this site is good and can be accessed in a 2WD vehicle. There are a fireplaces and a toilet available. There is some good fish habitat at this site.
Snowy Creek
Snowy Creek, is a decent-sized mountain stream that can provide very good fishing with good access.
